Marking the end of their Aberdeen Adventures - Aberdeen photographer

Outdoor family session in Aberdeenshire

Another gorgeous day in between all the stormy weather recently. It was great meeting this family recently although I had my work cut out. The wee guy woke up from a nap and decided he didn't fancy having a photoshoot. This is sometimes what happens when working with wee ones. One look at my camera and he freaked out. Luckily I have a long lens which means I can keep a distance away and still capture some great family moments. After a while, we found some games to play and he mellowed a bit, and grandparents on hand too helped as he clearly loved them to bit.

Outdoor family photography in Aberdeenshire

Just to clarify, this was 10am in January. Great weather, It was frosty and I had full winter regalia on. However that glorious sun had a fair bit of heat in it.

So just to let you know how photographers decide what constitutes great weather. Anything above 0 degrees, no heavy rain and anywhere the sky looks pretty one hour before or after sunset/rise or winter sun, Even if it’s a bit cloudy!

This image only helping to prove my point a cold morning in late January we managed to bring this image alive by some well timed sun action.

I loved this session in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire by the river. They chose here because during lockdown it became a favourite family place to visit. Its always important to cherish your family time somewhere that means something to you.

Woodland fun on a sunny winter’s day

Let me share with you a secret,

Out of the seasons, Spring is fabulous, and summer fantastic, but… Winter light absolutely ROCKS!

My passion for family shoots firmly belongs in outdoor sessions. Unlimited space and magical woodland playgrounds. However when it comes to working outdoors the weather conditions don't lend themselves to family sessions week in week out in Aberdeenshire. On crisp mornings in January like this one, and everyone is suitable wrapped up, the results can be stunning.

The winter sun at this time of year is like shooting at sunset all day long, a total gift to working outdoors at this time of year. Next add a family who love the woods and playing games, climbing trees and collecting sticks. Capturing these family memories of childhood was my absolute pleasure. Such a precious time to welcome a new baby into the family. I had the pleasure of lots of cuddles from this gorgeous new baby boy in the studio just after New Year. A lovely little brother for his sister to love. Although I love this picture which looks like she is praying he is going to be a good wee boy!! Mum and dad were both delighted he arrived safe and sound and truly beautiful.

National Trust Patrons Dinner

Recently I had the privilege of photographing the National Trust for Scotland's Patrons dinner at Mar Lodge, Braemar. What a fabulous venue for a black tie event. In the afternoon Patrons of the trust were invited to attend some workshops on Calligraphy, Fish tannery, pressed flowers and weaving of coiled vessels. The dinner was catered by Harry Fraser catering and the food looked sublime. Here are a few pictures from the event

Congratulations to the new Mr & Mrs Steven. After rescheduling their wedding a few times it was go go go today. Mr & Mrs Smith's Wedding at Maryculter House

Congratulations to the new Mr & Mrs Smith. Finally married at Maryculter House, Aberdeen 2021. Originally planned for July last year, this couple wanted to celebrate with friends and family, unfortunately like so many couples they had to choose to scale down to a bijou ceremony or postpone until restrictions eased up. The wedding moved again and was postponed again and finally after lots of patience, they final got the day they had planned. The weather held and everyone spent the afternoon celebrating after the nuptials, in the garden enjoying the views over the River Dee. A beautiful meal and some celebratory drinks and some well deserved dancing followed. Thank you Mr & Mr Smith for choosing me to capture your day. It was beautiful and filled with love from start to finish.

Schools out for now! Until the next chapter for this Teaching Graduate. Proud moments for Mum and Dad and Grandad who have travelled up from Fife today to mark their Daughter's Graduation from Aberdeen University. Unfortunately no-one told the weather. As I drove into town I faced the worst Pea-souper (slang for fog) I have seen in ages and prayed that I would be able to see the fabulous buildings down at Aberdeen university campus. Brollies at the ready we dodged the rain. It was obviously going to be one of those days, foggy, drizzly and a graduation sash that had a mind of its own and refused to sit properly no matter what we did, coupled with the photographer suffering the worst side effects from her 2nd jab and feeling like I had been hit by a bus (note to self if I need anymore jabs, do not schedule jobs the day after 😂)

Never mind it all worked out fabulously in the end

Welcome to the world little one. So precious to be invited to capture this bundle of newness, only 4 days old. I can honestly say this wee girl was the best baby I have ever captured. She took it all her stride, snoozing happily and looking adorable. Mum was amazed how stress free the whole thing was.

Part of what I do is make you feel comfortable in front of the camera. Its all about you and how you want to project yourself. While your headshot portfolio should give a sense of your range as an actor, one of the main priorities of your headshot session should be to capture your authentic self; a stunning portrait might well open lots of audition doors, but it will close them equally quickly if it looks nothing like you.

Celebrate getting together again - Professional family portrait photography

It's been so long since I have captured extended families. We have had restrictions on the numbers of households for such a long time I have really missed working with my big families. Finally with a relaxation on social distancing in family groups, we are back in business baby and it feels good! Hugs and cuddles all round. Four generations together today for a spot of Afternoon tea at the Norwood House Hotel in Aberdeen and the perfect spot to grab a few photographs beforehand to remember that lovely day we all spent together.

The sun has finally arrived, Hooray!

I met this family to capture the latest chapter of family life. I have met them every year since their daughter was born and its always so special to be invited to document the next stage. I was a little bit besotted. Her giggles and three year old enthusiasm for everything was catching. After a shy start to proceedings we had lots of fun in their favourite place they like to visit, down at the Deeside railway line in Aberdeen. As it's been pretty cold, everything seems to have been slow in growing, so there were still lots of bluebells poking about and this ended up being a great game. That coupled with some hide and seek and before long, those happy faces kept me clicking away for some beautiful candid childhood moments, aah the best type.

Meet this beautiful boy. Three weeks new and just perfect in everyway. Luscious brown spiky hair and milky skin, he stole my heart for a few hours. Here are a few from his Newborn photo shoot at home. Mum had a C-section so it was easier for all concerned to go to them and it makes for a much more relaxed experience all round. Today it was all about the cakes, and love a cake! Well it was all about the face behind the amazing cakes.

Meet Leanne, cake designer extraordinaire, based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire

We met last week for a coffee and a blether about what she needed for her business going forward and came up with some ideas about some product photography and brand images for her cake business. This was a great way to come up with some creative content for her online business marketing and social media marketing. We had time to sneak in some product photography of her delicious cakes too (I got a doggy bag to take home, Yay! probably due to me nearly drooling over the cherry bakewell) I can confirm, super delicious.

Welcome to Spring 2021! The coldest for a decade and don't we know it. After being spoiled last year its back to tres' baltic! I met this family in Duthie Park as they have been having daily outings there so it seemed appropriate to go somewhere they always go as a family. I don't know if its because its quite open, but it has to be the coldest park ever! The sun was shining but there was a bitter wind so for the wee one, respite in the buggy was needed. The winter gardens are normally brilliant for a heat but not at the moment. Here are some from their session, rosy cheeks all round haha!

One year on - Watch me grow baby photography

I met this family as their daughter was born just before the first lockdown last year. I have captured three lovely sessions for them, maternity, newborn and one year milestone. I love these sessions, so exciting to see a a family grow as well as the baby.

Our birthday girl, did amazingly, just look at that wonderful head of hair! As with all young children tiredness is never very far away but dad was on hand with some pine cones to keep her engaged a little longer. Such a gorgeous family, I feel privileged to have met them. x

Well, Its been some year! Lots of uncertainty and adjusting to the new normal. I think not seeing friends and family as much this year has been hard. Looking forwards, I am running some Christmas Mini Sessions from the studio again over the next few weeks. There are limited spaces and I can only capture one family at a time. The sessions are also more spaced out to allow for cleaning and sanitising and social distancing between sessions. I have made them a bit shorter too but I still will be able to capture lots of lovely images in that time. Pictures of the family would make the perfect gift this year
